Drawing & Colouring Pencils
FAQ About Drawing Pencils 2021
How to use watercolor pencils?
There are a couple of different ways you can use your watercolour pencils:
- You can paint on your drawing where the colour needs to be applied, then go over it with a wet brush to transform the pencil strokes into watercolour looking painting.
- You can make the tip of the pencil wet first, and then paint with it, so when you apply it, it already looks like you're using watercolours.
An important note: try using watercolour paper, if you have one, because not every type of paper is able to absorb water and remain intact.
How to hold a pencil?
You need to hold a pencil with either your thumb and index finger, or thumb, index finger, and middle finger, with the tip of the pencil pointed down.
What are pencils made of?
Pencil cores are made of either graphite or charcoal and have casings that are usually made of wood.
How to blend colored pencils?
There are many different ways to blend coloured pencils, here are a few of our suggestions:
- Use colourless blender to blend your colours. You need to go over your painting with it after you applied the colors that need to be blended, and they will blend evenly and beautifully. We have a wide range of colourless blenders on our website, so just pick one and you are ready to go!
- You can layer the colour starting from the lighter colour and work it up to the darkest one, adjusting the pressure with which you apply the colours when you are close to the borders between colours.
- Use a solvent like paint thinner over your painting to blend the colours. An important thing to remember: choose the type of solvent, paper, and pencils you use carefully as they might not always go well with each other.
Is mixed media paper good for colored pencils?
Mixed Media Paper is perfect for coloured pencil art because it generally has a vellum surface, a texture that is very convenient for working with pencils.
