Resin Molds

The mold makes the piece. You can have the best resin, the most carefully mixed pigments, and perfectly placed inclusions, but without the right mold, the final shape falls flat. Resin molds determine everything from the silhouette and surface finish to how cleanly your piece releases and how much post-processing you'll need.

At CraftOnline, we stock a wide range of resin molds in Australia that crafters love, from jewellery shapes and coaster rounds to botanical frames and abstract art forms.

Why the Right Resin Mould Matters

Silicone resin moulds are the standard for good reason. They're flexible enough to release cured resin without cracking or distorting the piece, durable enough to use repeatedly, and smooth enough on the interior to give your resin a glossy, glass-like finish straight out of the mold, with no sanding required in most cases.

The shape you choose sets the direction of the whole project. A shallow tray mold lends itself to decorative coasters or resin art panels. A dome mold creates paperweights or decorative objects. A bezel or cabochon mold produces jewellery-ready pieces that can go straight onto a ring blank or pendant bail. Knowing what you want to make at the end is the best place to start when choosing resin art moulds.

Popular Resin Mold Shapes and What to Make with Them

Jewellery molds

Rings, pendants, earring drops, cabochons, and charm shapes. These tend to be small and detailed, producing pieces that are ready to wear or assemble with minimal finishing. One of the most popular categories of resin art moulds Australian crafters shop for.

Coaster and tray molds

Larger, shallow forms ideal for functional resin pieces. Round, square, hexagonal, and irregular organic shapes all work well. These are great for embedding dried flowers, foils, or pigment swirls.

Geometric molds

Cubes, pyramids, spheres, and faceted shapes. Brilliant for paperweights, decorative objects, and experimenting with inclusions like glitter, mica, or botanical elements suspended inside the resin.

Frame and panel molds

Flat rectangular or irregular shapes designed for resin art. These give you a canvas to work with pigments, alcohol inks, and metallic powders to create abstract pieces that can be displayed as wall art.

Novelty and themed molds

Flowers, leaves, animals, celestial shapes, letters, and seasonal designs. Endlessly versatile for gifts, decorative accents, and mixed-media projects.

Tips for Getting Clean Results from Resin Moulds

A good mold is only part of the equation. A few habits make a big difference to your finished pieces.

Mix your resin properly

Incomplete mixing is the most common cause of sticky, uncured patches. Follow the ratio instructions for your specific resin and hardener exactly, and mix slowly and thoroughly, scraping the sides and bottom of the cup as you go.

Work in a dust-free environment

Dust and fibres settling on the surface before the resin cures will show up in the finished piece. A cover or dome over your molds while they cure makes a real difference.

Use a heat gun or torch to remove bubbles

A quick pass over the surface of freshly poured resin brings air bubbles to the top and pops them cleanly. This is one of the most useful techniques to add to your process early.

Wait for a full cure before demolding

It's tempting to check early, but demolding too soon can distort the piece or leave impressions. Most resins need 24–48 hours minimum.
