Initially discovered in 1907 through an accidental laboratory reaction, the potential of phthalocyanine pigments went unnoticed until a 1935 rediscovery revealed their outstanding intensity and lightfastness. By modifying the molecule with chlorine, scientists transformed the original deep blue into a radiant green that would become a cornerstone of modern colour palettes.
